Dying to Love (An FBI Romance Thriller Book 18) Page 22

  His life was damn good.

As they pulled into the parking spot, not far from the entrance, his dick was on the verge of exploding, but he managed to hold her off.

As she slid her teeth up his erection, she knew when she was beat.

“Wow! I’m either impressed or horrified that I couldn’t get my one husband to cum.”

Callen was breathing heavily. “Oh, I was close. I was thinking about sex with Kaya to keep from losing it with you.”

  She stared at him.

“You know that’s probably something you should keep to yourself, right?”

“That’s how far gone I am,” he said, grinning. “I can’t think straight.”

She went to get out, and he grabbed her arm. “Wait!”

  “What?” she asked.

“Tonight, I want to have some alone time with you. How about we take a little stop at a motel for the after party? Ethan won’t be around, and you did just suck on my dick for nine minutes and forty-three seconds.”

  “You were timing it?”

He laughed. “I told you. I didn’t want to get off. I want to spend the night with my girl. Actually, Jackson James wants a wild night of debauchery. Are you in?”

  She really should work.

Elizabeth hadn’t been giving this one her all, and she knew it. There was so much emotional turmoil going on that she was off her game.

Then again, there was more to life than work.

Callen’s heart mattered, and she had just tormented the hell out of him on the way there.

  Saying no would be cruel.

“Try and pick me up later, and we’ll play it from there,” she offered.

Callen knew his wife was going to play.

  He loved her for it.

“Let’s go vet the team, and tell them what’s going on,” she offered.

Callen followed. In fact, when the agents started staring, as they headed toward the door, he dropped his arm over her shoulders.

Then he growled at one who was checking out her breasts in the leather.

Elizabeth laughed. At the security desk, she waited in line as the security staff checked everyone in. As it was her turn, the man started laughing.

“Honey, you’re lost,” he said. “Look guys! A hooker is making a house call! Who hired the slut?”

Elizabeth was about to say something and Callen was about to kill someone when they heard him.

“Actually, she belongs to me,” Ethan said, leaning against the wall.

Every one of the guards stared at Ethan Blackhawk with their mouths open.

“Yes, sir,” the guard offered. “I didn’t know you hired a hooker.”

“Get it out of the gutter, Frank. That happens to be my wife. She’s working undercover. Elizabeth, show him your badge so the man doesn’t have a stroke.”

  She did.

“Mrs. Blackhawk! I’m so sorry! I didn’t know. I didn’t think that was you. I didn’t mean to call you a slut!”

  Callen started laughing.

“It’s okay, Frank, Callen calls me that all the time.”

Whitefox stopped laughing. “I do not!”

“It’s okay, Frank,” Blackhawk offered. “She would have kept the ruse going to drive you insane. She’s vicious like that,” he stated.

She rolled her eyes. “You know, Ethan, that just spoiled my fun. How the hell did you know I was coming?”

Ethan glanced past his wife to Ivan.

She pointed at him. “I hate you. Why can’t you just be the fly on the wall? Why do you have to butt into my business?”

Ivan loved tormenting her. “For the record, your butt is my business. Nice britches, by the way.”

He walked away laughing, as he went to go wherever he waited for her.

  “I hate him!”

  Ethan was well aware.

“He called me when you pulled into the lot. He likes to warn me when you’re about to do something…Elizabeth-like.”

“I’m going to poke his eyes out with sticks and use them as earrings.”

“Yeah, it’s your wife, all right,” Frank stated. “That sounds like her.”

  Callen snorted.

“Hey, baby, come here often?” Ethan asked, as he dropped his arm over her shoulders. Yeah, he knew half the building was staring, but did it matter?

Word would travel that it was his wife.

“Why are you back here?” he asked, moving them toward his and Gabe’s elevators. He didn’t have to ride with the agents if he didn’t want, and with his woman wearing a skirt that short, he wasn’t sure that was a good idea.

“I have to brief the team, see if they found anything, and then head out. I wish you could come.”

  Callen snickered.

“Why is my brother laughing?” he asked.

“She tried to get me to come.”

Ethan stared at him. “Callen won in a test of wills? That’s shocking.”

“Yeah, I know. Someone forgot to tell him that the wife always wins. I just won’t put out later.”

“What? Is that a rule?” Callen asked in horror.

She snorted as they got into the elevator.

“You look three days past dirty,” Ethan offered, for a loss of a better word. “The Johns are going to have a hard time focusing.”

There was tension in his voice.

“I’ll be safe. I’m carrying a gun, and I have Callen watching my back.”

“That’s the highlight of my night,” Whitefox offered.

  Elizabeth ignored him.

Instead, she hit the down button, and then moved against his body. When she pulled him down to her mouth and teased him with her cherry flavored lips, he moaned.

“I’ll come. Screw Callen and his determination. I’m the easy one,” he muttered.

  She was amused.

When the door opened, she was practically wrapped around his body.

Thankfully, this was the morgue floor. People didn’t go there to spy.

“Baby, I could have you in my office all over again,” he said, watching her walk out. Her ass was rocking back and forth with each step, and it was hot.

“I know,” Callen said. “I can’t wait for tonight.”

Ethan was disappointed that he couldn’t be there to watch his wife work. This was more proof that his job was consuming him alive.

He had to turn down Miss Kitty sexiness.

What the hell was this world coming to?

Elizabeth punched in her ID code and the doors to Autopsy Suite One opened.

When she strolled in, all sound stopped.

She dropped her southern twang, and instead, tried to sound like a DC hooker.

  “I’m looking for the boss.”

  Chris laughed.

Tony dropped a tray, and then grinned as the rest of the techs stared in confusion.

Amir Hayden, their new head tech, headed her way.

“You can’t be in here,” he offered. “You gotta leave! How did you get past security?”

Chris winked at her. “Look who she’s with and put it together, Amir.”

  He looked around.

  “Director Blackhawk? Is that you?”

“Guilty as charged. I’m working the street, literally, tonight, and I wanted to check in. What did we find?” she asked.

  Tony raised his hand.

“I just found an extra hundred-dollar bill,” he teased.

She pulled out her phone. “I just found your wife’s number in my phone.”

“I’ll be good. Don’t tell Jaxon I’m a bad boy. I’ll be better, Miss Kitty.”

She snorted. “Where are the Seatons?” she asked, looking around.

  Amir went to get them.

“Tony, tell me about the women. Did you find anything that’s going to help me now that they’re down to their bones?” she asked.

“No, ma’am. It’s pretty much the same. I do know that he used the same knife to take the scalp and eyes. It’s not serrated. It was smooth
.”

“So it was like a hunting knife that someone would use for removing the meat?” Ethan asked, as he was building the profile in his head.

“Yes, sir. The one and the same.”

The door to the autopsy suite opened and the Seatons entered.

  Immediately, Brody whistled.

Johanna gave Elizabeth a fist bump.

“If I say something Elizabeth, do you promise not to fire me?” Johanna asked.

  “Sure, shoot.”

“I hope when I'm your age, I can still pull that off. You had kids. I don’t get it. Your ass defies the laws of gravity.”

  She found that amusing.

“Well, I don’t run for fun,” she offered.

“She runs from Callen,” Ethan added, amused that his brother was giving him the look.

Elizabeth laughed. “Yes, yes, I do.”

“Johanna, did you and Brody find anything in your research?”

“We tried all kinds of tricks to tie the two women together,” she offered.

“Yeah, it wasn’t easy,” Brody finished.

  “But did you?”

They gave each other a high five.

  “We did.”

That made her really happy. This was why they were her team. They were damn good at what they did, and she appreciated it.

“Give it to me. My recording monkey is taking notes,” she said, pointing at Callen.

“They had two ties between them. It took some work, but we managed to find one cop who arrested them both. He took them in on the same night.”

It was a stretch, and she knew it, but they didn’t have much.

  “What’s his name?” she asked.

  “Officer Justin Sutherland.”

  Callen made notes.

“And it was just that one incident?”

  “Yeah.”

“Who is the second tie?” she asked.

“We actually found something that may or may not be interesting. We don’t know where to put it in the case.”

“Let me decide that. What is it?”

“We found an FBI agent who is tied to both of the dead women.”

  “A Fed?” Ethan asked. “Who?”

“Special Agent Patrick Singer,” Brody answered, as he flipped through his papers.

Both Elizabeth and Ethan recognized the name.

  One as a boss.

  One as an ex-partner.

“He works in Vice,” Ethan offered. “In fact, his boss just approved his vacation time a few days ago. I noticed it because he’s already maxed out on his time, but he wanted to take it without pay.”

“Callen, make note of his name. He’s getting a visit from us tomorrow.”

Ethan touched her arm. “He might have used the hookers as informants,” he offered. “We here at the FBI use them too. It’s not just Metro who uses them.”

  She figured as much, but…

“He’s on my radar because he was my partner at one point. I think he only lasted a week. He went to Gabe and asked for a new partner.”

“I remember him,” Chris said. “Wasn’t he the one who wanted you to screw around after work?”

She nodded. “Yeah, but I was seeing someone at the time, and I don’t cheat on the person I’m with.”

She hoped that would be reassurance to anyone she’d had a relationship with at work.

She’d been seeing Chris during that phase of her career, and she recalled mentioning it to him.

“One of those, huh?” Ethan offered.

“Yeah, I declined his advances, so he started getting bitchy. Eventually, Gabe approved his request and moved him to vice.”

Ethan didn’t know any of this. It bothered him on some deep level as her husband.

  Shouldn’t he know everything?

“I feel like there is so much about your past I don’t even have a clue about.”

  Oh, she was aware.

The most volatile part was right in the room across from him. In a perfect world, their family would remain intact.

  Only she knew better.

The world was far from perfect. In fact, it was shitty at best.

  So she redirected.

“I did learn who the possible father of the one child is,” she said. “Sharon Jones, at one point, had sex with her pimp, and it seems that he liked to impregnate them with his seed.”

Everyone looked a little ill over that.

“Yeah, think about that. He knocks his own girls up, but why you ask?”

Chris was staring at her. “You aren’t going to tell us to make more hookers, are you? I have a little girl, and that makes me want to be sick.”

“Yep. That’s exactly it. He’s creating the next string of hookers for his mighty empire.”

She told them all what he’d told her about his master plan in life to populate the world with ‘his girls’.

  It made her mad.

They were all horrified, and rightfully so.

“Can’t we do anything?” Johanna asked. “Maybe Child Protective Services?”

Ethan interjected. “We don’t have jurisdiction unless prostitution goes across state lines, and we have no proof that it’s child prostitution. Our hands are tied.”

  “It’s sick, boss.”

  He agreed.

“Edward Becker is a douchebag, but he knows the law. He offered to let me look around.”

“He’s not going to keep the kids there. There’s nothing illegal about having kids with a hooker. He’s not paying for the sex. If it’s not rape, we’re out of luck,” Blackhawk stated.

  Ethan was right.

“He’s shady, but he’s going to know his limits. We can’t get him on prostitution unless his girls will roll on him. They won’t. He’s likely cutting them some slack on how much they pay him, and they think it’s a deal,” Elizabeth stated.

  “That’s so wrong,” Chris admitted.

“Welcome to DC, the home of the sick and twisted. Just when you thought the politicians had the perverse field covered, in sneaks another player to change up the game.”

“So you’re going out trolling?” Chris asked. “Again? Need a John?” he asked, grinning at her.

She knew why he was smiling, and it took her back. “Yeah, I need one, and Jackson James is the winner of this one.”

  Callen took a bow.

“Darn it,” Chris stated. “The husbands have all the fun. We brothers just have to sit by and watch.”

Elizabeth stared at him. “Did you hear what you just said, you big perv?”

He snorted. “It sounded better silently in my mind.”

  Elizabeth shook her head.

“Be safe,” Johanna offered. “This sicko is targeting hookers, and you’re dressed as one.”

“Yeah, but I have this under control. He’s playing to me. I’m the safest one here. Besides, I have backup. I’ll be good. Keep digging, and see if you can find anything else. I hate to say this, but until the killer gives us another victim…”

They all knew she was right.

Elizabeth blew the doctors a kiss, and she headed out. Callen and Ethan flanked her.

“Livy has been trying to reach you,” Ethan offered. “Gabe just called before you arrived.”

  She shrugged.

“Are you filing a report?” Blackhawk asked.

“No, but I’m not working with her—not now anyway. I’m really pissed about what she did, and if she’s smart, she’ll stay out of my way until I work through the mad I’m feeling.”

  They understood.

Honestly, it was a sound idea.

“I'm three days past pissed off, but I don’t want to tank her career just because I can’t, or won’t, work with her.”

  He figured as much.

  Elizabeth wasn’t a narc.

She’d never get anyone fired just to be a bitch. She’d boot their ass around DC first.

Livy was in for one hell of a ‘come to Jesus’ talk when his wife was ready to deliver it.

Olivia Rothschild was going to get ‘taken to church’ on her behavior, and Ethan didn’t blame her.

“I need to let this one go for now,” she stated. “I have to focus on the dead women. I feel like I’m slacking,” she offered.

  Ethan opened the elevator.

“You don’t have much information on this case, so don’t think of it that way,” he offered. “I started working on the profile, and I’m not having a good time with it.”

“Why is he leaving her roses and color coding them?” Callen asked.

Ethan was impressed. “You picked up on that?”

“Chris did,” he offered. “I wish it was me, but I was too freaked out that someone was wooing our woman.”

“Yeah, I would be too. I can feel the rage now, and it happened a couple days ago.”

“What does it mean?” she asked him.

“He’s telling a story. We need to listen to it.”

“He’s insane,” Elizabeth offered. “We need to put him down like a rabid dog.”

  Then she looked at Ethan.

“Is he going to keep killing kids?”

“I don’t think so. I think he needed something so big it would keep you playing. He knew you’re a mother.”

“Hell! All of DC is up in our business,” Callen offered. “Who doesn’t know she’s a mother?"

“More reason he picked her,” Ethan offered. “She’s in the limelight, and he wants attention.”

Callen thought about it. “Does he want more attention, or does he want her?” he asked. “There’s a huge difference, and you know it.”

  He did.

  “I don’t know yet. I need more.”

  Yeah, she did too.

When they reached the front of the building, Ethan’s security was standing there. They’d been alerted he was on the move.

Elizabeth didn’t know how, but they always knew.

“Be safe, baby,” he said, giving her a kiss.

She leaned into his body as they slowly shared a lip lock. It turned her right on that he didn’t care that he was in a suit, and she was dressed as a hooker.

Ethan loved her so much that it made her heart swell. This was what she needed in her life.

  These men.

“You have an audience,” Callen warned, giving them a heads up.

He set her free. While he wasn’t embarrassed that his wife was dressed as a street walker, he didn’t like to let any of his minions see that there was a softer side of him.
